i wish this still existed....
Sep. 5th, 2015 11:30 amalmost every saturday for 2 years in high school (i was 2 years older than jen, well actually um, i still am....), we'd walk down/up 7th street and meet on 5th avenue (she lived on 1st avenue, i was on 8th avenue) and we'd go downtown to bebop around, starting always with woolworth's for lunch.....they put cherry syrup in coke by hand and you could ask for 'extra' cherry syrup, the fries were always perfect and the burgers were always excellent.....then we'd usually go over to the record department and usually get a 45....then go wander downtown the rest of the afternoon......

Date: 2015-09-06 02:58 am (UTC)This country became a little poorer when Woolworth's closed. It was the store on EVERY Main Street USA. Every school kid had the same notepads, pencils, etc.
I remember a particularly bad day at work. I had a nice comforting lunch at the Woolworth's luncheonette. The day wasn't so bad after that.
I can't find any of today's fast-foot-joints as comforting as the old luncheonettes.
