being from hell clinton, iowa (and i now live in ohio, i appear to go from one 4 letter state to another, but ohio is not hell! ;) there was ALWAYS quite a divide between those who preferred john deere and those who preferred international harvester....mind you those i heard debating the merits of each had never worked on a farm in their life, but they felt quite qualified to defend the 'honor' of their chosen 'brand'.....the only REAL farm discussion i ever heard was one time i was at the eye dr. in dewitt--in the early '80s--- (about 15 minutes from hell clinton) and in the waiting room were 2 elderly men....no one had said anything since i arrived--in about 10 minutes--- and suddenly one of the men said "In 1938 that drought really did a number on the crops." For some reason I had to curtail myself from cracking up because after total silence coming out with THAT, I just found it hysterical. Then there was about 5 minutes of silence and the other elderly guy then said "Yep". I started to cough. I mean, they could have been having that conversation from 1945 the rate they were going!!! Uh, yeah, there's a random irrelevant mod-tale for ya! :)

nope, i've only heard the start of some ohio sports chant that i automatically eye roll and tune out! :D i HAVE heard the joke that Akron is the capital of West Virginia! and the past few years a 'new' one is that Akron is little Detroit (that's actually sort of true....)

yeah, cleveland is......but akron is TRULY on the detroit path with the crime, the unemployment, etc....hell we've had 3 mayors in 2 weeks now!!

Ding dong plusquellic RESIGNED....basically to save his pension but he claimed the local paper (who's covered his shit for YEARS started picking on him----they actually did NOT buy his 'this one council person who had the audacity to question me about something said he was gonna assassinate me in front of my mother at the state of the city speech so i had him uninvited' (the police chief didn't even buy the threat, NO ONE believed his claims that this council person threatened to shoot him!!!)....so he resigned---again, he's saving his pension, cuz remember the things i told ya about him and research? :D so Moneypenny took over....but the week moneypenny was STILL council president, a female worker congratulated him and he hugged her but then GROPED HER....he still took the oath of office and golly gee, last friday he had a press conference admitting it and apologizing and didn't think it was a big deal and he'd still be mayor til the election but he wouldn't RUN for the mayor's office as he had said before (wait for MORE women to come out of the woodwork cuz um, he's done this before, trust me, i know things).....

so NOW fusco AKA fucco, is gonna be mayor starting wednesday....when fucco was a a council person in the 90s he got a DUI while IN A CITY VEHICLE!!! he had to resign.....of course he was buddy buddy with ding dong, so he got back in office after sitting out about 10 years......he's not gonna run for mayor so we'll basically ahve FOUR mayors this year---unless fucco leaves office----i hope he does!!! :D

I moved from Akron last year, but I have no bad feelings for Plusquellic. He really did bring downtown back from the dead. I don't know enough about the details to say he resigned to save his pension. He was mayor for over 25 years and unless he 1) accepted bribes or 2 engaged in "corrupt activity" that influenced the finances of a business enterprise. What I have read hasn't made any accusations like that. There doesn't seem to have been an investigation into corruption that he resigned for. Like I said I haven't followed Akron since I left, so I could be missing something, but public pensions are hard to lose.

until the ABJ didn't side with him about hoch's alleged threat (and he was only mad at hoch because hoch led the questioning about him wanting a construction company for concrete at great cost to citizens in addition to already huge cost the sewers are costing us) they basically would say ZILCH about anything plusquellic's wrongdoings.....the majority of citizens have no idea the extent of his world travels or spending at tax payer's expense (there was also much expense on his campaign credit card too and his Akron USA fund).....charges daily within city limits for meals (per the charter those are to be business meetings, yet there's never any receipts or accountability), sometimes 3 'meals' per day---but up to 7 charges if you include the charges of his campaign card at the same place......personally benefiting from city travel in violation of the charter----city buys the ticket but HE (and other of city people did this too) received the 'rewards' (frequent flyer miles, hilton rewards, etc).....i have studied stacks and stacks and stacks of public documents from the city via record requests from others and made spread sheets of analysts, summaries, cross references, lists of travels, etc as it's VERY hard to keep track of where the mayor traveled to do.....i've got a 2 foot stack of docs next to me FILLED with rules broken......no one seemed capable of telling him NO......

downtown is still rather dead....the city spent millions and millions and STILL wants to spend millions more on downtown---current scheme, $12 million to tear down part of the innerbelt closest to the downtown to force people to DRIVE through downtown and then have more space for buildings (never mind there are plenty of EMPTY buildings).....all the while neighborhoods are rotting away.....many of the mayor's chronies personally benefited from those downtown deals....that apartment place across from the ABJ building (can't think of the name of it, nor the owner of it--too early) was a buddy of the mayor and the city basically short changed citizens, AGAIN, for that deal.....highland square isn't downtown, but look at how albrecht who WAS a plusquellic buddy (no longer is since the attack on hoch) and he profited a nice $3 million from the city (at citizen's expense) for the old sparkle property so the starving citizens of highland square can have a mustard seed supermarket (what other neighborhood had such interest in a supermarket closing before?)

if you moved last year, then you are aware of the sewer bills being 69% more.....that's cuz of don ignoring the EPA for 20+ and then them filing suit....they DID try to work with the city for 20+ years....

watch the news.....i can't say some things but last year it was in the ABJ that Tamra Lee was raided by the FBI (she's a Summit County Council Person).....there have been rumors for years that there's been an investigation into the city......

i have a cousin who STILL resents me for something that happened in the early '70's!! ...ok, so he resents getting caught shoving me off a chair (and to the floor) at my aunt's wedding, and the resulting ass-whuppin he got.
