I think it's a crime that you can't transfer between the blue line and the silver line at the airport. I used to commute from the north shore to fort point and my first day doing that on the T was such a nightmare that I never tried it again. It ended up cheaper and faster to drive in and park in a garage.
They are currently building a connection fro the Silver line to go through Airport Station and on into Chelsea. Meeting up with the Commute rail. Long over due!
It's a bunch of glorified bus lines that have dedicated traffic lanes, but they treat it like a subway. There are actual subway stations on the line that serves the seaport, although you basically just are waiting for a bus to drive up. In particular the connection between South Station and the airport was one that the city desperately needed
The worse thing, other cities are building them too! I San Francisco is about to get a BRT Bus Rapid Transit line down Geary. So Sad. I have road the Silver Line many times. Its no different in speed as a regular bus.
I've ridden the T. One of the most fantastic experiences of my life! *sarcasm*
Honestly, service shutting down this winter multiple times? And they encourage people to take public transportation! Then they better have it running.
The Green Line lets you ride above ground but you're really crammed into those tiny cars. At least the Red Line gives you some breathing space, but I hate being underground.
Yes. I am not sure how it compares to NY and Washington as I've seen the best and worst of those but it's always seemed decent to me. And I was amused that I could walk over the subway tracks.
So that map is from when the narrow gauge railroad still existed (my grandfather used to talk about it - it connected Rowes Wharf to Lynn, via Revere Beach - I think he must've taken it a lot because he grew up in Boston and his father owned a store in Lynn).
The old map is from a time when there were many different transit agencies in Massachusetts. Before they were all rolled into the MTA and then later called MBTA. This map should be from the Boston Elevated Railroad.
The Boston, Revere Beach and Lynn Railroad was a separate company. They were the narrow gauge railroad that went to Lynn. Unfortunately, it went out of business in 1940. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston,_Revere_Beach_and_Lynn_Railroad
This is the best book on the rail road. Well worth a flip though. https://bpl.bibliocommons.com/item/show/993396075_narrow_gauge_the_story_of_the_boston,_revere_beach_amp_lynn_railroad
