I always wondered why back then it was actually cheaper/easier to hire an artist to paint a picture of what you're selling than to simply take photos for the page.

Especially in the 1960s; photography was cheap by then!

I noticed it wasn't until the 70s and 80s that you started seeing primarily photographs of products in print ads.
