I'm no expert in Scottish footwear, but I never saw the likes of those on any of the men at any our clan get-togethers.

His shoes are fairly close to certain types of medieval shoes--fabric wrapped around, brought up, and tied. They don't look quite right, but close. And that layout's just poor--simpler time, those 60s...

My da always wore a black loafer (with a silver buckle) type with his dress kilt and a pair of mid calf brown boots with his every day kilt.

These look like something girls might wear, but definitely nothing I ever saw growing up in the 60's..

Of course, as you say, much simpler times.
