Community update and confirmation that I'm clueless.....

I believe I told y'all I sent off our ads for our custom layout. I added a fast food, a pop, a vegetable and I think another ad, to ensure things were covered. It's the holidays, so I don't expect to hear anything back for awhile.

When I went to promote us on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day, I only had 2 options, 'Ukraine' and 'Default'--which was Russian and I couldn't get the promo spot above the English community list. So I just listed us where I could. I opened a support ticket asking what in the world and someone said it was because I was opted in to Cyrillic services and if I opted out I'd get the English (non-Cyrillic) promo. I went to change the setting for us so it would be done and I could promote us appropriately for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day and I saw on our profile page we were no longer around #50 in community placement (which is where we usually are). We were at #155 and we weren't on the English list, we were on the Ukraine or Russian list.

I'm thinking promoting us on those pages got us switched to those lists. But we have always been opted in to Cyrillic services, so?? I removed us from Cyrillic services but that didn't place us back in English (non-Cyrillic) community list. So I am totally clueless and have temporarily got our ratings very screwed up and I profusely apologize. I have sent a message to the LJ person I've been working with asking what I needed to do to 'right' this---because I can't figure out what happened exactly. But again, it's the holidays so it might be a week or so.

I felt it best to post about this and let you all know as I know some of you do check our ratings. I'd also rather be upfront and admit I'm clueless as I've always tried to keep everyone in the loop of things, as we are a 'community'.

I'll promote on the non-Cyrillic list New Year's Eve and New Year's day and hopefully, soon, some one can give me a clue as to what in the world I did, cuz the only thing I can figure is that promoting on those two types somehow switched us but now I can't get us back to English ratings. Sigh.

As punishment I will look at pictures of jello monstrosities for 20 minutes on google images.

thanks! it is rather confusing and i read all the FAQs i could find first before promoting, then when i had the issue promoting i reread them--that's i opened a support ticket....now the rating issue? i have no clue....ultimately though i feel that something i did is responsible for this and i am the 'captain' so to speak, so i have to take responsibility....i am a clueless captain when it comes to how/why our ratings changed but i have faith when the lj staff comes back from their breaks they will help us out!!

As a mod myself I feel your pain! All computer systems (not just LJ) seem designed to drive us crazy. You follow the directions and it still doesn't work! :)

thanks!! well at least NOW i know when i go to promote us new year's eve and new year's day we WILL be promoted in english...our ratings? i have no clue...no clue at all....but as i said above, i DO have faith when lj staff return from their break they can help me sort this out!!

i can't even tell you how shocked i was when i saw we were down to 155 from like 42 the day before!!! then i saw we were on a different list and then confusion reigned!!! and it's not that i'm 'ratings driven'---we do what we do and if that's 'popular' that's great, if not, that's still great....but we've always been in the top 50 or around there....ya know??

Hm, I'd say it's LJ, not you. Just remembering how "helpful" they were while I was stalked (for years) gives me an idea... Hope you can make them do what you want as a client, nonetheless;)

I'm sorry you were stalked for years! That's horrible!! :( I have to say they have new owners and they seem to be going to back to how they were---in the beginning....and I DID get a reply today, which I didn't expect due to the holidays, but it was very helpful. They have really been helpful, so whereas I don't have a problem calling someone out when things are messed up (including myself when I mess up) I will turn around and say when they're doing good too. Right now, as far as how they're treating Vintage Ads, I have no complaints---just some confusion for a bit!!

Well; it wasn't fun but I tried to keep my (shady) humour through the ensuing cyber-bullying and I can say for sure, this community that I detected back when helped enormously to maintain my take on life and its misfortunes. However,
the LJ-staff (of the day) later sent me the purged or otherwise not any more attributed to them, ex-user names of the stalker via message as proposals for usernames for myself; to which I responded about as humorously that I could also have chosen to press charges on the matter but received no response to that Q. (whether LJ really wanted a process -then, I didn't know, the stalker had already killed themselves).

All in all; I was not impressed with LJ. I'm here because my LJ-friends are and because of communities like this one. SO, I do hope, with new owners there is also new staff that act correctly...I'm an incurable optimist!

I'm an incurable optimist too---though i always prepare for the worst (hope for the best, prepare for the worst)....and i have a very twisted sense of humor that was a coping technique during an abusive childhood and i still will try to find humor in MOST things---though of course there are things you cannot nor should not joke about....

i'm glad we were here to help in anyway to divert attention and give you a break...and i've randomly posted this through the years and i probably should put this on our info page---if you ever want someone to talk to about anything, please don't hesitate to contact me!! i wouldn't want anyone to feel like no one out here isn't there for them!!

unbelievable about that!!! though if it was the russians? it falls in line with their 'don't like it leave' mentality'....there are very few US staff members left now (the russians got rid of most of them) but the ones who i have dealt with have been there for a long time and have always been quite attentive---and the US staff were pretty much in the dark with what the russians were doing, but they tried their best....BUT WHOEVER (american/russian) responded to you and/or had those suggestions sent to you?? uh, they should have been fired!! i mean, not only that, they should have proactively been on the cyber bullying patrol!!

and the stalker killed themselves....wow....i am so so sorry you went through all this!! some people are just beyond messed up and instead of doing something to improve themselves, they don't and spread their torment to others....PLEASE know i'm sending you cyber hugs and good thoughts and i feel horrible you went through this and they wouldn't help you!!
