"grin & wear it" was the slogan; I never actually owned any A. Smile clothes, but I always saw their ads in seventeen magazine.

says it all; this ad with the nude bicyclist was still one-of-a-kind in the permissive 70s.

Lastly, one of my favorite clothing stores when we visited New York in the 70s was The Different Drummer; my mom and I would walk about 20 blocks from Grand Central to my doctor's on East 64th street, and this was one of the stores I always had to go into, even though we never bought anything there.

In the late 60's, The Different Drummer was a popular hippie clothing store/boutique located on Lexington Ave in NYC frequented by hippies, rock stars and others. This iconic poster was created for the store at the peak of Peter Max's "Cosmic Art" period.

I actually still have a brown paper bag from the store with this design on it; it hasn't totally disintegrated yet. (Well, then I must have bought something there, but I can't remember what.)

(This poster is actually for sale at: ["Aging Hippies Sell Out"]—go buy it!)
