I guess it was a normal thing to carry books in one's pocket?

Also, seven shots a second? Wow.

And it's "for gentlemen" why, exactly? Women are incapable of grasping the intricacies of firearms? Sorry, I think Samuel Colt did more for women's equality that Gloria Steinem dreamed of on her best day...

I own one of those that belonged to my father. It's kind of amusing, really, that that model was very popular among gangsters and other criminals, which weren't exactly a gentlemanly crowd. It is/was very concealable and reliable which is obviously why it was widely used before the end of the gangster era when things started escalating to more powerful guns.

As for the 7 shots per second, eh. It's probably capable of that mechanically, but not likely something one could practically do.

Damn. The only gun I have of my fathers is an old S&W .32 - not a bad little piece, all told, but the pocket Colt would be so much cooler.

Yeah - concealability was every thing for the gambler. He had to be able to defend himself while still looking harmless.

And reliable? Of course it was reliable. It was a Colt. God created man, if you'll recall, but Sam Colt made man equal :)
