1. Bolting the two backwards-facing "outdoor bucket seats" into the pickup bed meant that Subaru could import the Brat as a 4-seat passenger vehicle, rather than as a light truck, thus avoiding the 25% "chicken tax" tariff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_tax
