It just sounds spicy. This is artwork done by Johnny Hart (B.C. comic strip notoriety). He did many ads for them in the early '60s.

this has me thinking of the 'warm dr. pepper' ad...isn't that with added spice? or just served warm? (not asking you, speaking-writing, out loud here)....

Notice it’s not “Diet Dr. Pepper” but “Dr. Pepper Dietetic”

I totally forgot how some foods were labeled "dietetic" when I was a kid. My parents brought home a box of "dietetic lemon cookies" by accident once, and they tasted like sweet dog bones. Don't ask how I know that.

Were they sweetened with cyclamates? Or saccharin?

Oh my gosh, I wish I could remember. I can almost see the box in my head: I can clearly see in my mind's eye the front of the box, and I remember what the cookies looked like (like flattened light-yellow nilla wafers) but I'm sure I didn't read the ingredients. This was around the same time my parents were experimenting with Tab and Sweet n Low, though, so my guess would be saccharin. Blech!

If Dr. Pepper and Sgt. Pepper had a kid, would they be the surgeon general?
