it makes sense from an advertising standpoint, though.
in that era, a pool at home was an outrageous luxury...so parking the car there implies that THIS car, too, is a real luxury. it's not something that a person would think of consciously, but subconsciously it would register.
People would do the oddest things to give the appearance they were more well off than they really were. Some would ride around with their windows rolled up tightly despite the heat to give the impression their car had air conditioning, another outrageously expensive feature at the time.
I suppose that hasn't changed much over the years though. One popular ruse these days is to put different number badges on BMWs and Mercedes. That gives the appearance of a larger engine, therefore much more expensive vehicle in the same body class.
