i MUST include the final speech from the movie....it's often mentioned as one of the greatest speeches ever given.....the words still ring true....chaplin was truly a genius---and ahead of his time.....

I'm not sure he actually wrote the words since this was a character in a movie. Actually it would be fascinating to find out who did write it...

I remember when I saw that movie just being really confused. It's had been a comedy up until that point when all of the sudden it took this really dramatic turn, but what confused me is that I couldn't tell whether Chaplin had stepped out of character like, "okay, we've had our fun. Time to get serious" or if he was speaking as Hitler suddenly coming around and feeling remorse--which I don't think most people were able to buy. I should probably watch the whole thing again sometime to see if I can pick up more contextual clues.

Either way, it was certainly stunning and dramatic. Like, whoa, shit just got real!
