Quisp® and Quake® were arguably the same cereal, but I always felt they were different cereals because their different shapes made them taste different.

The characters were designed by Jay Ward, who created Rocky and Bullwinkle; Quisp [a space alien] was voiced by Daws Butler, and the voice of Quake [a miner] was William Conrad (who was to become Cannon in the 70s.)

I remember the occasional bowl of Quisp when I was a young kid. I can't say I had ever seen Quake land on the table, though. It may have been a matter of shelf space at the markets. Quisp probably moved more product because of the whole space gimmick to it.

Quisp was a more appealing character. I always thought that it was a pity that he's been relegated to cult status among cereal mascots. Quake only lasted a few years before he was redesigned to look more appealing. That didn't work and by the early 70s Quake was replaced by Simon the Quangaroo. Both are long gone and Quaker Oats decided to concentrate on Cap'n Crunch and Life, relegating Quisp to the occasional revival.

The best part about the cereals were the ads. They were some of the most entertaining cereal ads I've ever seen.

Too bad they didn't bring back Quake to tie in with the 90's video game of the same name. That would have been so weird.
