Ah, but if you click on the Wikipedia disambiguation link, you will come to "The Chap-Book", a late 19th century magazine.

Up until the 1930's or so, American and British magazines, would refer to specially themed editions as "numbers".

And that is an amazing cover for 1895--I had presumed it was Art Deco era!
