I was tempted to scream "KNOCKOFF" at the "Plazer" but if it's from 1961, then it would predate Star Trek by a good 5 years. OMG! That plagiarizing Roddenberry! Also, that thing looks awfully big and unwieldy.

I used to have something that looked like the Outer Space Ray gun. I attached it to my garden hose.

Glad to see they didn't exclude girls!

Well, yeah. I suspect it's a portmanteau of either "play" or "plastic" + laser. You know I was being silly! :D

Also, I forgot to comment on the Buck Rogers girl. She doesn't need any additional weaponry! She would definitely be able to put an eye out with those things!

It's mostly that viewfinder. That might work for a sniper, but would be unwieldy in a combat scenario.

Oh, yeah. It's freakin' toy!

Scopes seemed to be popular accessories for cheap raygun toys. I have one somewhere with one
Just a little added plastic and the gun looks that much cooler.

But didn't Han Solo's blaster have one?

ah yeah:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/DL-44_heavy_blaster_pistol

The original DL-44s of the classic trilogy were created from Mausers with simple muzzle and grip accessories, as well as a rifle scope mounted on top.

Cool! I see your Wookieepedia and raise you a Memory Alpha. I did start to wonder if any Star Trek phasers had viewfinders (Oh! My! God! I seriously need a life!) Well, anyway, here's one Deanna Troi is using that appears to have a viewfinder:

I go ask to get unspammed now! :)
