They were kind like a Payday covered in chocolate. I have no idea why they were called Chicken Dinner. I liked them when I was little, but they disappeared in the early 60's
Wiki: The Chicken Dinner Bar had been a product of the Sperry Candy Company, which was acquired by Pearson’s Candy of St Paul Minn in 1962. The bar, introduced during The Great Depression, was so called in reference to President Herbert Hoover’s promise of “a chicken in every pot”. The bar did not contain chicken or other poultry products, but was, rather, a chocolate-covered nut roll. Pearson’s discontinued the bar’s production after the acquisition. Early TV commercials sang "Chick - Chick - Chick - Chick - Chicken Dinner" similar to, and in the cadence of a rooster crowing.
I wonder if they were like Chick O Stick. My dad used to like them when I was a kid, but I was terrified at the idea of eating candy that tasted like chicken until he told me that there was no chicken involved.
