Working on our calendar for the net few months and we need to select contest themes for February, March and April!
I have reached into the 'hat' (Dolly Parton Dixie Stampede cup) and selected the following 7 choices: (why 7? I dunno)
Meat
Floor Coverings
Artwork in Ads
Houses in Ads
Hideous Crafts
NON-creepy Kids
Candy
PLEASE vote for more than one!! Whichever gets the most votes will be February, the next March, etc.
Also, ideas for more contest themes, weekend events, one day events, etc are ALWAYS welcome!!!!

Flags for Flag Day? or patriotic ads.
How about Trucks instead of cars.

Date: 2013-12-31 09:08 pm (UTC)I like the idea of flag day---that's in june right? I'd just make it for anyone's flag, not just USA to include all member's and their countries.
Just trucks is good---what about if we add vans too? Cars is our January contest.

Date: 2014-01-01 06:00 pm (UTC)for unbelievable dialogue, I was thinking of those ads that have ridiculous conversations in them - obviously happens a lot with TV ads, but there are plenty of print ads where they've written out this huge dialogue between the people

oh haha I just realized, one of the tags on my blog that I didn't steal from this comm is "unfortunate double entendres" - that could be a theme here.. we'd all have to reach deep down to our inner beavis and buttheads. there is naturally a bit of crossover with gay subtext, but there are plenty like that "big dick" toy gun - I've got one for a cat enthusiast publication called "the pussy magazine", a line of clothing called "big yank" etc etc

New ideas:
Trees (Christmas trees, national parks, camping, etc.)
Sports (Super Bowl Sunday is coming up!)
TV (ads for TVs, TV dinners, TV shows, TV actors/actresses in ads)
Radios (lots of ads from pre-'50s showing families gathered around the radio?), ads from any era hawking radios
Books (people shown with books, Reading is FUNdamental, libraries, etc.)
This is one of the best comms on LJ! Also one of the most active after the Great Migration. ;) You do a great job, Miss Tia!
Happy New Year, everyone! :)

Date: 2014-01-01 02:24 am (UTC)Trees is a good one....we could do that like 4 times a year? Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter--what do you think?? show trees depicted as for each season in ads.....
Super Bowl sunday, yes....
oooo TV!!! YES!! And Radio too!!
Books is EXCELLENT!!!

Date: 2014-01-01 05:44 pm (UTC)I like the idea of doing it 4 times a year. Trees are such a great indicator of the seasons. :)
Heh, our national holiday! Could be a blizzard this year and it's being held for the first time in a cold weather city with no dome!
TV and radio are always fun! :)
I'm glad you liked the books suggestion. People in older ads are probably shown reading books a heckuva lot more than ads today. And the National Library Week is very cool! :)

Date: 2014-01-02 04:51 am (UTC)- Ads featuring defunct products & businesses
- Ads from the year you were born in (I forgot if I already suggested this)
- Destination ads (places you'd like to visit)
For the themes, I vote houses, meat and candy!
