I have always been in love with this spacey house. Is it not cool?

I would love one tucked away in the mountains.

Heck yeah! They do look cool, but I would be worried about all the plastic. I found a post about an abandoned on in Munson, TX that really needs some love.

I have sooo many mixed feelings about this. Imagine the convenience of installing one of these - no architects, no designs, no fabrication...all done already! A single one is so unique and interesting, but a whole neighborhood of them as in that photo seems quite ugly. And doesn't it seem odd all those seats just around the edge of the building? "Le bungalow" - ha!

A whole neighborhood of these would also sort of defeat the purpose of having something unique. I already live in a neighborhood where all the houses look pretty much the same. Maybe if each one was a different color it would look better.

there's a house west of Denver on I-70 very similar to this! we always just called it the UFO house (http://onthepondfarm.blogspot.com/2010/07/space-ship-house-north-of-denver.html).

I remember one of these very well. It's just off a highway near Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. I used to make my parents ride me by it just so I could see it in the 70's....

It looks like the house from Woody Allen's "Sleeper". I wonder if there's an orgasmatron inside. :D

There's one (or was one) in Sydney, on the northern beaches or up that way. A friend of my mother's lived there.

Shocking! It's almost impossible to get anything unique or unusual built in Australia with all the planning laws and "objections" from neighbours. I'd love to drive up and see it.

Alas, while it was on Grandview Dr, Newport, and called the Pixie House, it doesn't appear to exist any more.

Oooo, I'm going to Whale Beach on the weekend for lunch, I may take a detour to just make sure!

On the left hand side as you come from the beach end, apparently on a bend that goes right.

If you have tryptophpbia, this house is not for you. That one with the multiple windows going down already resembles a spider and it's starting to creep me out.

There is something creepy or other-worldly about the oval windows.

It reminds me of the Dymaxion House. I wonder how much -- or if -- this design was influenced by it.

I've seen a few pics of abandoned Futuro houses. It's nice to see ads/photos of the houses in their prime.

There's one in Chattanooga that I'm pretty sure is still abandoned. The stairwell was broken by the original owners, though, supposedly because they had a fight and the wife lowered it on to his car. It's a weird area...Nearby there's a neighborhood built to look like a fairytale village in the mountains, complete with streets named after different characters.

The original future house was a Finnish design (You can see that in the last picture, which is a book cover, it says "Tulevaisuuden talo menneisyydestä") These were wanted, but expensive and only a few dozens were originally manufactured. The smallest one was the ski lodge that had no kitchen or sleeping space or actually *no storage space at all*.
