Published: April 6, 1863
Blemishes on the face, called Moth, are very annoying, particularly to ladies of light complexion, as the discolored spots on the skin show more strongly on blondes than on brunettes, but they contribute greatly in marring the beauty on either, and anything that will remove Moth Patches without injuring the skin in texture or color, would no doubt be considered a great achievement in medical science. Dr. B.C. PERRY. No. 49 Bond -- st., having devoted his whole time and attention to Diseases of the Skin, will guarantee to remove Moth Patches, Freckles and other discolorations from the face without injury to either texture or color of the skin. His success in this, as in other branches of his specialty -- Diseases of the Scalp and Loss of Hair -- will warrant him in guaranteeing a Cure in every case. Dr. B.C. PERRY.

Further googling tells me that chloasma is often seen in pregnant women, and is sometimes called "the mask of pregnancy" - giving tan or dark skin discolorations particularly on the face.
Fun extra info: according to urban dictionary,
mothface
When your out wasted and all the sudden you feel that urge to jump into the arms of another man and you faceplant on the concrete. After the faceplant you are a mothface.

Date: 2013-10-28 04:54 pm (UTC)what it *actually* is, however, is a very mild case of plaque psoriasis, which has some irregularly shaped blotches on my face. the long and short of psoriasis is that instead of your skin growing new cells and delicately shedding the old cells at a steady rate, the new skin cells grow WAYTOOQUICKLY and stack up, not shedding as they should.
which forms "plaques", or bumps of skin overgrowth. the two on my face right now appeared LITERALLY overnight. they'll eventually let go and peel off with no trace left behind, but in the meantime it's very distressing for me. the ones on my scalp are worse, but they're the ones that *itch*.
