Have you radiation tested it? We inherited one of the orange coffee jugs from grandma and sure enough it sets off the Geiger counter.

This come up from time to time. The truth has always been, Yes the early Red pieces made from 1936-1942 have uranium oxide. When Red was reintroduced in 1959, it was depleted.

However, the amount found in it, is the same daily consumption you would get from rocks and other stuff.

Yup that's what I was told too. We have some of the cream coloured ones, they were coloured with uranium too. The only caution was not to let acidic foods soak in it because of the leaching of uranium oxide out of the glaze, because it's a toxic heavy metal.

Oh but they did, twice!

First was in the 1970's

Then they planned another reissue in the early part of 2000's. It was aborted early in production. The existing inventory was sold of in the Homer Laughlin retail outlet.

You can still find Harlequin pieces on eBay for pretty cheap money. Its much more affordable then Fiesta.

mama has the pitcher on the bottom left, in tangerine...the creamer and sugarbowl in tangerine...a huge *round* platter in yellow.

the word "sugarbowl" makes me laugh...

when the ex and i separated, i took my tupperware sugarbowl. the one my mother had given me when i was 18, i had owned it when we got married. the day after i left (and was no longer making his coffee in the am, and bringing it to him in bed, yes i did this till the day i left because i still loved the guy but not in a spousal way any longer) he calls our son and says "(boychild), did your mama take the sugarbowl when she left?"

"yes, dad, why?"

"holy fuck, i thought i was going insane, i couldn't find it anywhere! and yes, tell her i called about this, so she can laugh at my stupid ass." (and i did. so this spring when he was here going to school still, and had his birthday? i gave him the damn sugarbowl for one of his presents. he laughed till he had tears in his eyes!)

Riviera use to be the old Century Line until Fiesta came along and everyone wanted color. So they dipped Century and got Riviera. Be on the look out for rare Cobalt Riviera. Those are hard to find.
