for those who do not know what a "locker club" is:
it used to be that sailors *must* leave and return to base wearing their uniforms. however, many did not wish to wear their uniforms on the town! therefore "locker clubs" were invented. it was a place to stash your uniform *safely* while you changed into whatever civvies you had, and know that it was going to be there when you got back.
some of them included cleaning services (probably many/most of them) so that you could return in clean clothes, go to sleep, and still have clean clothes to turn out in come reveille.
my dad explained the concept to us once when i was in high school (in the dark ages), he'd been active duty during the Vietnam era, when locker clubs were a common fixture outside bases.
Thanks. I was wondering about that, but I kind of like the gay subtext version that my imagination came up with. This is in San Francisco, after all. ;)
