Radio stations in the Caribbean used to do death notices. It could be that they still do. The usual formula was to begin "We regret to announce the death of..." A rookie announcer in Trinidad in the early 1970s(with whom I was later to be acquainted) who is now the artistic director of a theatre company in a major North American city began his first such announcement with the words "We are pleased to announce the deaths of..."

This was part of a magazine profile on him. I asked him about it and he said that the programme director called him in and told him "We are never pleased about anyone's death!"
