Oh yeah!!!! :) Whenever I see it in Akron I post on my FB "BLIMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Only saw it once today and that was the first time this year!! I think it's moored somewhere else as the 'new' one is being built at it's regular hanger. But I was sooooo happy to see it today!!!! I got pictures of it saying "Moo" and "Ding" !

Which one? Does Fuji still sponsor one?

In my little world, the only blimp is the Goodyear blimp!!! I have no idea why either, I wasn't even born here in Akron, so I have zero ties to Goodyear. But the Metlife, Outback, Fuji, etc none of them do a thing for me. They could even offer me a ride and I wouldn't go. There is just something about the Goodyear blimp that seriously makes me so happy and I can hear it about 5 miles off and I always rush out to take pictures! I know there are countless others like me too and none of us can explain exactly WHY or WHAT it is about the Goodyear blimp!

Sort of like when Ronald Reagan once said that when people said 'The Queen' most everyone automatically thought of Queen Elizabeth II. (I never thought I'd use Ronald Reagan in a comment! :) But BLIMP to me is Goodyear!!!!

Whenever the Firestone golf outing is the other company blimps fly around Akron and people point 'em out to me and I don't care, it causes no excitement, no feelings of unexplained joy. Just "meh". And maybe I don't WANT to know why the Goodyear blimp has such an effect, I just know I LOVE THAT BLIMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on scratching that one off your bucket list! Still get to see one occasionally but they were a regular part of the skyscape in NY, although a fair number of them would have been invisible to you. Absent Dr. Freud, I'll just ask if Goodyear's isn't the biggest one? teeheehee!

Well my entire 'bucket list' is the RIDE on the Goodyear Blimp and I haven't done that yet!!!

USUALLY when the blimp is in the dock in Suffield, I'd be seeing the blimp several times a week!!!

hmmm....size wise, I don't think it is actually!! And I freak when I HEAR IT before I can even SEE IT! I was showing a friend from the other side of Ohio around Glendale Cemetery and I heard the BLIMP!! and I gasped and started looking around and he's like "what? what?" And I said "BLIMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and he's like where? And i explained I didn't know, but LISTEN, and he heard the distinct sound it makes, then we saw it!!!! BLIMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it when they go right over my house!!!!

Have you ever seen the shelter / hub for the Goodyear Blimp?

It's freaking HUGE! I can't remember what city it's in. (It's not Akron, but on the outskirts) It's like 4 times the size of a large passenger plane hub.

It's in Suffield. No, I have never been out there!!!!! Believe or not, I have never been there!! I figure if I went there, saw the blimp I would never ever leave!!! They'd have to PRY me off the fence!!!!

That's where the 'new' one is being built this year though so I don't think the Spirit of Goodyear is there this year.

The OLD blimp hanger in Akron is now owned by Lockheed Martin doing Department of Defense contract work. They built some $100 million unmanned dirigible that was suppose to be able to do surveillance and it crashed in Pennsylvania. I think they're building another one!!

That's the one that crashed?! I didn't know that. I thought it was a Goodyear, but not the 'Spirit of Akron'.

No, a Goodyear blimp crashed a few years back!!! Spirit of Goodyear was the replacement!!! BUT they are now making technically zeppelins to replace the blimps---though everyone will still call them blimps!! to launch next year or in 2015. Our local one is being built at the Suffield hanger.

That sound so awesome. Instead we got the TSA, long waits, uncomfortable seats, and jet lag.

Pity that it didn't happen. I'd love a trans-oceanic airship cruise.

Aw, look! Goodyear built a blimp port island in the middle of New York Harbor! This really does sound luxurious if not inordinately speedy. Even if you take the explosive element away (Oh! The humanity!) I wonder how those babies handle in a storm.

I do love your blimp ad, but please, please please - could you either re-size the picture or put it behind a cut - as it playing merry hell with my Friends page - every single post from every community I follow is being stretched out so that I have to scan from side to side just to read the entries !! Am I the only one in here with this problem - no-one else seems to be bothered ?!!
Ad's a great one though - "gay salons" indeed !! And 40 hours to cross the Atlantic - no wonder they didn't take off (excuse the pun )
