pish, tosh. i eloped and managed just fine. i also didn't get a HANDTOWEL much less SHEETS my only wedding shower! (i also got stuck with BUTT UGLY flatware from an aunt whom i am 90% certain had used the set and decided she didn't like them, but too late to take them back.)

my parents THANKED me. not that my first wedding cost over $500 to begin with, but i didn't ask them for more after that.

they paid for most of my brother's first wedding. then a good portion of his second, drew the line at hosting 45 people at a REHEARSAL dinner for wedding number three (and her family never did find out it was his third!) and decided it was more important to see round #4 than to see the first grandbaby.

my daughter has not forgiven either of them for the last one.
