I remember reading an article years ago about someone ordering one of those Sears catalog houses. The guy said that it came with pretty much everything needed to build a house. Something like 3 trucks showed up one day at his lot and unloaded the stuff. He and his wife did a lot of the work themselves. Of course, a lot of people were more handy back then.
I still think the idea of building a prefab home would be neat, but it's getting hard to find places that will let you do that.
They're pretty good homes, too. My little sister and her husband had one for a number of years. It was a smaller model than the one in that ad, but was still rather nice. She managed to find a copy of a Sears catalog page for her house and had it framed by the front door.
