You never had Pepsi with a little bit of milk? Or grape soda with milk (purple cow)? Think of it like a float but with the ice cream already melted. It isnt too bad...
I've never cared for ice cream floats so that's probably why the idea of milk and soda doesn't appeal to me. If someone offered it to me, I would try it.
I don't drink milk. Didn't like it as a kid and I probably only eat ice cream or have a milk shake a couple of times a year. I eat tons of other dairy stuff, just not a fan of milk.
Growing up, my brothers and I drank a lot of Shasta when we would take the boat out on the (Mississippi) river. Dad would load up the cooler with Shasta for us, Diet Rite for Mom, and PBR for him. I loved their grapefruit, ginger ale, and cola.
I've had ice cream in Coke, but I've never mixed 7-up with milk. Might be interesting.
Shasta was nationwide at one time, as I recall. One local brand from Chicago that seems similar is Canfield's, that had a number of interesting flavors, including "Mickey Melon," a watermelon-flavored soda that featured a line drawing of a young Mickey Rooney holding a watermelon on the can; chocolate soda, not unlike a chocolate phosphate (chocolate syrup and soda water, not anywhere near as bad as it sounds); Swiss Cream Soda, with commercials featuring an oom-pah band and a jingle with a chorus that ended with "Das is gut!"; and my favorite, 50/50, a grapefruit and lime drink. I should see if I can dig up some of the ads.
Ohhhh man. I was born in the Chicago area and was practically raised on 50/50. My paternal grandparents always had a ton of it at their house! It still exists...my dad always has at least one 12-pack.
We used to go up a couple of times a year and come home with a few 12-packs of it. We loved it. I don't know what hapened to the Chocolate Fudge soda, Mickey Melon, or Swiss Creme Soda, though.
