Patterns from the primitive past...for now. The Mayan civilization of centuries ago provided Schumacher's designers with the inspiration for this exotically colorful group of new decorating fabrics. Our masterful weavers captured the effect of the primitive hand loom as the basis for the four boldly different hand prints. Plains, stripes, and plaids in the collection are color coordinated with each print for the most tasteful settings. All are Zepelâ„¢ protected against soils and stains. etc etc.
So basically, primitive and exotic, but soaked in DuPont chemicals; "the effect of primitive hand looms" but machine made and with designs that no hand loom could produce (esp. that one on the left). It looks like there's batik and embroidered ones too, and a nice Mayan Tartan as well.
Thanks for transcribing that, but, yeah, pretty typical. Most Americans were/are not well-traveled and so ill-informed, they wouldn't know the difference anyway, or care. Not much has changed, though. Even today, I have met a lot of people who think they are experts on Mexican culture because they've been to Cancun and they say "hola" to the cleaning crew who empties the trash can under their desk.
Not that I claim to be any sort of expert. The only time I've spent in Mexico was a day trip to Juarez.
