I actually have two of these sewing machines! #1 was my paternal grandmothers and it is a great machine. I've sewn all kinds of things on it including quilts. I even have it in the original table. and #4 was given to me by my mom! she made her wedding dress on it!
How cool that your machines are family heirlooms! I have #3, bought it on eBay and it's marvelous. Today's Singer's are pretty much plastic pieces of crap, but their machines from the 1950s are some of the best and will probably last forever.
Any one of those sewing machines would be great. There are like three antique ones here, all of which need attention, but still? Room for more. No deserving case ever turned away ;) (I have the 1930 model of #5, and a dear friend taught me LOTS on #1, which was top of the line the year she got it.)
I like the RCA Victor ad. "Look Mom and Dad, this is something called color. Objects outside our home come in many different colors. Oh, sure, you like it now, but wait until you find out this also applies to people."
That Singer advert? I have #1 sitting in it's carrying case at the ready not 3 feet from where I type this. NO KIDDING. It's a fabulous old machine. The new singers are garbage, but this one is great. I LOVE the sound of the motor and the mechanism... It SOUNDS SOLID. I LOVE it!
