Interesting to note the prices...I just bought some CK jeans at Macy's and they were $49. Not much price difference over the years.

Just what I was thinking- which means these must have cost a fortune in the 70s. Maybe they were hand-cut and sewn back then instead of machine cut in a giant pile like now - I always have to try on like 5 pairs and they'll all be different sizes (if they were cut from the top, middle, or bottom, the size varies wildly).
Or maybe it's that we make our clothes in cheaper overseas factories now?

Machine cutting and sewing has been around for a long time so I'm pretty sure it's the offshoring of those jobs. Not just the manufacturer of the clothing itself, but also the fabric, threads, zippers, etc. I live in an area where there are at least a half dozen closed mills, spinners, and textile plants in my zip code alone. Lots of unemployed "lintheads."
