The young human is being very strongly discouraged from using some twine to tie the teakettle to the smaller dog's tail. (Tying noise-making objects to animal's tails was sometimes considered jolly entertainment by the young & uncivilized.)

Not sure what that has to do with gas stoves though. Maybe back in those days advertising was just about catching the attention, and then selling the product. Like opening with a joke?
