Fisher-Price Shaving Kit (1986)

I saw a razor ad and it's toy-buying season so I thiought it would be a good time for this. 

I don't know about you, but this looks like a really boring toy! I know my boys wouldn't have played with it much. I understand the whole male-bonding ritual, but isn't that pretty much a one-time thing that happens when the boy actually starts shaving?

I saw one of those toy shaving kits last week when I was out with a friend and she was picking a toy for her workplace's "angel tree". They're still made and still sold, but I've never quite understood them either.

I don't know, this may of came in handy when I was a youngster-I used to watch my dad shave, and apparently one time decided to try it myself...with dad's real, non-electric razor.

I did the shaving thing, too (because how was I supposed to know girls don't usually grow beards!) - but luckily, my father used an electric one, so I just grabbed a plastic soap container, passed it over my face and made bzz bzz sounds... to the utter delight of my parents.

I hope your friend picked something else for the "angel"! IMO, this kind of toy is for the kid who already has a ton of stuff and you have run out of ideas.

Yeah, I just figured everyone shaved their face! My mom thought I had gotten into the lipstick because I guess I scraped myself pretty raw.

Yeah, good point! I should have recalled the times I played with my dad's razor, which was much more often than appropriate. It was the kind with the replaceable blades and those things were sharp! I still remember the time when I was about 3 years old and since I was still at a gender-ambiguous age, I wanted to copy what I had seen both Mom and Dad do. I did okay "shaving" my legs, but when I got to my face, I pretty much just swiped the blade across my mouth, like I thought my dad did, and when sticky red stuff started pouring out of my face, I decided I needed to consult a grown-up. My mother was sitting out on the porch with a friend of hers and I'll never forget the horrified looks on their faces! I must have been a literal bloody mess! I didn't need stitches or anything, thank goodness, and good thing I never witnessed my folks doing any, um, "intimate" shaving! (GROSS!)

So, yeah, I can see the point of this item--not just for the kid who has everything but also the kid who gets into everything!

So glad I'm not the only one who did that!

Of course, women do sometimes shave their facial hair, especially as we get older (sigh). Turns out I was training for future hygienic needs after all.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one, I use to 'shave' with my dad, which luckl for my face the 'razor' was the back of a mustache comb.

Ah, the innocence of youth. Back when shaving seemed like a really neat thing. Then came adulthood and the daily mantra of "*grumble*...I should just grow a bead"*

She got two presents: remote control car (because "there are no toys for boys under that tree, it's stupid!") and a big thing of Play-Doh XD. (And.... we were in the toy aisle for something like an hour).

Good choices, IMO, especially the Play-Doh. Encourages creativity, fine motor skills, etc. Oh yeah, and it's fun! :)

Not gonna lie, this is actually cute!
