A second set of Sanka ads from the LIFE archives. All of these ran in 1944 or 1945, and they feature a "wartime conscience" that interferes with women's daily lives. All of them, not surprisingly, have problems that are solved by switching to Sanka.

I am kind of amazed that they had coffee in the war.

And amused that the woman buying a hat is told to put the money into bonds instead, because IIRC in Britain the one clothing item that wasn't rationed was ladies' hats.

War Bonds were an anti-inflationary measure, so *any* kind of luxury/unneccessary spending was discouraged in favor of locking up your money in war bonds...at least until the war was over, at which time you were supposed to spend that money like a fiend.

The "don't waste your doctor's time" one is weird. I get that they are tying the call to a lack of sleep - I guess I've never seen that advertised as a "do your part for the war effort" thing.

It is so weird to think about house calls being normal.

Nice of War Conscience to tell the lady to leave her soldier a voicemail every day. They didn't have Skype then, you know.

I wish recycling could still help end wars. It doesn't seem to have that effect anymore.

Hey, War busy body. Why not bother the idiots who thought up this stupid-ass war in the first place?!

These are hilarious. I'm dying over those high, starched collars and costume halos!
