It was. I vaguely remember these ads when I was in elementary school. I never knew anyone who actually had one, though. I'm pretty sure most parents thought what I'm thinking now, which is why give your kids something to make them want to waste pencils?
Also, I'm mostly replying because I like your kitty! I have a couple of orange (technically "red") tabbies. :)
They look kind of familiar to me, too. I must've seen this commercial back when I was a kid, but I really don't remember the things.
I showed the video to a friend who also didn't remember them, but commented that the 'mouths' on the sharpeners made them look like Realdoll's for pencils.
(hope these upload okay) It's not that my cats are lazy, it's just that they're easiest to photograph when they're asleep! Well, that's one-third of my kitties, not counting the feral ginger and white tabby that we feed, who is also an older sibling of these three. Their mama had lots of babies before we were able to catch her and get her kitten-making equipment uninstalled!
Oh, yeah, the topic. I don't think the Pencil Chompers were on the market very long. I found one on eBay from 1976 from a seller in Canada. Maybe they continued to sell them there longer.
They are so beautiful! Love Clarence with all of that fur! I have my eye on another ginger at the shelter and if he's still there after Thanksgiving I'm bringing him home hehe. Mr. P is the one on my icon and you can see him in the front of my journal, he's a big boy at 20 pounds. I also have another orange one named Riley, he was a former stray and was abused so he is recovering but he's doing much better now. I don't know what is about me & orange cats but I just love them!
I'm glad you're adopting another. That beats anything you could get at a Black Friday sale! I hope you get him, but if not, I'm sure there will be another beautiful ginger needing love soon! :)
Yep, everyone will be heading to the malls and dept stores and I'll going to the shelter to adopt! Actually, I have about 7 orange cats on my list that are in the shelter right now so even if he's gone I'll be sure to find someone else to bring home with me!
I remember this well, even without clicking on it. I never had one, nor did any of the kids I babysat for—that was the age it was targeted to by the time these were around.
Albert Alligator—I just remember at the time Albert was the name of a kid I had a crush on, and he always got called Albert Alligator.
