Mademoiselle, August 1958, front cover

So I've set myself a bit of a project. Recently I was given the August 1958 issue of Mademoiselle magazine to dismantle and scan. I'm going to try doing it systematically one gather at a time. More info on the mag at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mademoiselle_(magazine). (On a personal note: Thank you D and Aunt C!)

p. 27 is glorious, but these are some gorgeous ads all around - can't wait to see more.

All I can hear is Patsy Stone's "MaDEMOISELLE, MaCEMOISELLE!" when some unfortunate person called her Madame. XD

The Saks Fifth Ave ad looks like it might be by Andy Warhol.

I thought so, too!

The "Harzfeld's" one too. Almost certainly Andy Warhol.

Nice collection! The Chanel ads haven't changed much.

I would absolutely love the outfit from the cover, if it was a real skirt and not a skort and minus the headband. But I really covet the shoes. And I would also totally want the "strutaway suit" from p. 08. Thanks for sharing your project with us!

I try to dress like the cover look every fall, and for some reason it's always really uncomfortable. I think maybe I'm too tall for tights. I've tried going up a size, but then they're baggy. Sigh. But I love this look! I love little flat suede boots.

I find that lower denier tights like 40den tend to be a bit more comfortable than the opaque ones, but they are always challenging. At the beginning of the day I feel so elegant and by the middle of the day everything the tights are always heading south, sagging everywhere and wrinkling horribly.

By the 70s, Mademoiselle had become such a trashy mag that my friend Karen called it Madam.

Very nice selection. I enjoy looking at items from the fifties. It's fun to see what fashions were in style then, etc.

"Peck and Peck" makes me think of a detective series. 'Peck and Peck, they're cops!'

I have been googling "Mamselle by Betty Carol" and I really shouldn't have, her stuff is making me swoon too much. The woman has made some fantastic little coats.

Or rather the label.

Gorgeous! I love the cover, everything about her outfit (maybe not so much the hairdo?), her booties, her bike, her physics textbook, I'm in love!

I also love the 'Meet Mr Mort' ad outfit- pg 26?

This was personally helpful! I have a suit with a hipline like the A view in the Kabro ad - it has buttons down the back as well. I've always had trouble placing it. Maybe it's late 50s.
