My first job was at Stromberg-Carlson in Rochester. Very fond memories of the factory and the co-workers. In the 1960s they only made telephone equipment, having long dropped TVs and radios. They finally closed up shop and moved to Orlando Florida in 1977, then bought by Seimens and finally fizzled away.

Is the building still standing? I live in PIttsford and like to drive around Rochester and look at history.

Oh yes indeed! 100 Carlson Road, between Humboldt St and Blossom Road. Just drive past can of worms and exit Blossom Road, go west two blocks.

I figured, given the year, that it had something to do with the war.

Highly OT, but I love your icon.

I might have also peeked at your others, and your animated cat series is just glorious (and a little mesmerizing)!

The animated cats come from actioncat.com. The pictures are e-cards, and the site has preview pictures for the cards, and the preview pictures are usually just the right size to become LJ icons!

I guessed it! But hygiene was a strong runner-up.

I was honestly bracing myself for more Lysol shenanigans.

Dang! I was guessing a radio, but it was War Bonds.

Can you imagine reading that if you're a woman at home with a man overseas? ACK.

You were right the first time. This is an ad for a company that makes radios. I guessed the war bonds, but not the rest.

And, yeah, seriously depressing!
