YES

What did people actually do with macrame besides make plant holders? Possibly all kinds of stuff but I can't think of any.

Owls. With big wooden beads for eyes. I don't think I visited any house as a kid that didn't have a macrame owl on the wall.

I so wish that I had the owl my mother made. Macrame will make a comeback. Oh yes. Yes it will!

okay i just went through the craft box....i have four macrame books that have owl patterns.....these are all from the 70s....i also have a plethora of other macrame books----plant hangers, one is even holding an AQUARIUM?!, macrame cat, pix frames, smaller rope for purses etc......but there's 4 with owls....one of the books with an owl is a holiday book with different things for holidays---macrame witch, rabbit, etc....it's a christmas owl ornament (5") in that booklet...the other 3 owls are bigger than that.....

Belts and jewelry. One of my aunts made me a very pretty choker necklace-I was sorry when I outgrew it.

God help me... I just saw a plant in a real jute or hemp macrame hanger, and IT LOOKED GOOD in a Joni Mitchell Ladies of the Canyon sort of way... I have truly become a west coaster. Gahhhhhh!

A 10lb ball of jute for 12 bucks! Count me in! Uh, what the heck is jute? Is it like hemp or some special macrame twine or something?

I just can't look at the ad without thinking of that In Search Of... show that Leonard Nimoy hosted.

Just think of how big a gunny sack you could knit with that ball of jute!
