Is it just me (in the UK) or do all these US bacon ads look like slabs of fat, with only the barest bacon content?

I was gonna say, despite the ad-copy calling it the "leanest," that's one fatty looking strip of bacon. And sadly, most US mass-market bacon is pretty fatty.

Rath bacon was always one of the worst. Infuriating. somehow they put the pieces on an angle so the meat portion would show through the window. But open the pack and it was ALL FAT. I went out of my way not to buy that brand of bacon. Dreadful.

We have back (the more common) and streaky, but even for streaky, these look like more fat than anything else.

All those short sentences.

This is bacon.

It is shiny.

Lean, but shiny.

It has finer flavor.

From the land o' corn.

I remember an ad that may have been produced locally. It ran on Denver's KLZ during Fred 'n' Fae, their kid show. It's possible that Fred was one of the 'Indians' in the ad. Anyway, there were four band members, dressed in Indian drag, with the feathers and the paint and the yatta yatta yatta, and they were singing:

"Eat Rath's weiners; come on strong.
(Heap big energy all day long!)
Rath's Black Hawk weiners for lunch or snack.
(Heap big flavor in every pack!)"

Whoa! I remember Fred and Fae, but I don't remember them *that* well! :)

I was probably just the right age. Used to pick up "Hi Gang" from our kind, jolly merchant every week. Fred & Fae came to town, and I stood in line to go up on a stand and get a photo from them. Fred asked if I'd like an autograph, and I said sure (never turn down something free, even if you don't know what it is), and he stamped their names on it with a rubber stamp. I didn't say anything, but I felt like that sort of ruined the picture. Even before I smeared the ink.

I found out recently that a friend of mine back in Colorado was a finalist in the "Little Miss" pageant they used to plug on that show. LIFE came out and took photos of her, and they laid out the article, but something happened (probably somebody famous died) and the article was pulled. I saw the layouts, though, just as they would have appeared if the issue had gone to press with them in.

Does this old commercial from TV exist on You Tube anywhere?

Was this written by William Carlos Williams or something?
