Unless it's in a cookie I really hate oatmeal but I bet those overnight oats tasted much better than the instant. And what a cute stereotypical granny! Yes.
Nope! All you have to do is get yer steel- or stone-cut oats, and before you go to bed put them in a pan with as much water as directed, and raisins or craisins or what you like. Bring to a boil, take off the heat, cover, go to bed. Warm it up in the morning, and that is all.

I don't let my kitties out at night, either, if I can help it. Granny was wrong about doing that (but don't tell her I said that--I don't want her to go out and cut a switch for me like the last time I was being contrary!)

These days I'd be terrified of my sweetie not coming back! Indoor cats always and forever.
(did people care less back then? I imagine "my kitty never came home!" was a regular occurrence even then; if not due to traffic, because of other dangers)
