The right wing these days seems to be jumping (at least for show) real hard on the Jesus train these days and the traditional demarcation between Protestants (especially the evangelicals) and the Catholics (witness Ric Santorum's run) is overlooked as long as the candidate espouses the most backward social views, especially pertaining to women, but also the economy and international policy. If anything is perceived as a slight toward Xtianity (as opposed to Christianity), there will be outrage. Which makes them not terribly different than the Taliban in mentality if not theology.
