This ad appeared on a brazilian newspaper on May 7th, 1881.
I just love the honesty of this man =)

"TO THE COMMERCE

I here declare to the commerce and to the general public, due to rumours that I am a debtor of a large sum of money and that I'm not the owner of my possesions, that I do not owe at this present date money to anyone. However, if someone judge himself my lender, you can go to Cambucy Street, to my house, at anytime, and if my debt is real and legal, it will be paid.
S. Paulo, May 7th, 1881.

Reminds me of those announcements you sometimes see in small town newspapers that say something like, "I am not responsible for anyone's debts other than my own." That's one way you found out who was getting divorced!
