I know it can be done, though. I was really into air-cooled VWs for awhile and I remember reading about people who did that. There were some modifications that needed to be made, for sure. I don't recall what they were and I found the idea somewhat silly anyway. If you want a car with a Porsche engine, get a Porsche! Don't turn the vee-dubs into mutants!

That settles it. All cars in the 1970s were pure ugly. Granted getting a Porsche for under 7K seems like a steal now, but it looks just like a Fiat!

There are still plenty of 914's on the road. The X/19, not so much.

The 914 had a bigger interior and more trunk space. It was also faster, and had better handling and cornering.

I had one, and at 6'2" tall it's the only car I've ever driven with the drivers seat set one stop from all the way back.
