Ah, the Mark Spitz mustache. Also, that physique would have been considered pretty buff in those days. People just did not do the insane workouts that seem typical now. Going to the gym was kind of a specialty hobby then. Consider, for instance the Monster (http://images1.fanpop.com/images/image_uploads/Rocky-Horror-Picture-Show-the-rocky-horror-picture-show-822467_330_500.jpg) from Rocky Horror. He's got great abs, but his arms seem kind of lackluster to the modern eye.
