It would save money all right-because nobody would ever use it due to the complete and utter LACK OF PRIVACY.

Well, no offense, but you must be very young. In basically every military of every country forever, soldiers shit, shaved and showered together with no privacy at all, the concept doesn't exist. Communal showers with no privacy have also been a fixture in American high schools at least, for over a hundred years. I'll agree everyone would prefer privacy, but that's a really, really recent thing. I went to high school in the 80's and you'd be much more of a weirdo if you complained about lack of privacy- no one did, it would mark you as strange. Yes, they had something just like this shower-thing, and boys used it all the time after gym, they didn't care. I never did use the showers, because yeah, there was no privacy and I always thought communal showers were weird. Also, I was a semi-closeted gay kid, and it was less a thing of me being "turned on" or something ridiculous, it was more that I was rumored I guess to be gay, I wasn't going to ever go there, with the jocks and bullies, thinking I was looking at them. I avoided the showers entirely, but it was okay, I barely worked up a sweat in gym, because I just hated it, didn't give a shit. I did get to see my handsome crush jock guy come out of the showers naked though. He looked at me with contempt, I looked at his dick. I guess it was a fair trade. Not like he would've ever liked me anyway.

My classmates and I used them in the early nineties in high school after gym, it wasn't a big deal to us girls.
Either shower or you smelled like sweat for the next five hours of school.

Most of the rinks I skate at have showers like these (or other group showers) - and ayep, nobody uses them. (or very few people).

Could be cultural, could just be the rinks in New England are gross. ;) I've been in places with other open showers and people used them. A camp I went to had them, but everyone was too busy swimming to shower.

Thinking on it, it's possible that because I've been on mixed teams no one feels comfortable traipsing around in the buff.

Those men are having altogether too much fun in that shower.

I've seen another very cool ad from "Progressive Architecture" - I need to find some of these magazines IRL.

My high school had these, I hated them. The water pressure ripped your skin off. When I took my kids to said high school for swimming classes, they still had these showers.

They have these at some beaches and you're right. The water is really sting-y, especially on sunburn. If there's a square inch of skin you didn't manage to cover with sunscreen, these showers will help you find it.
