Agreed. If Aunt Jemima looked like an actual African-American woman, as she does now, it wouldn't bother me as much. I wonder if the model, if they used one, was actually a white guy in blackface. Except for the nose, it looks that way to me. Tyler Perry makes a more convincing woman than that.
The original model was named Nancy Green (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Green), and she was a former slave who became one of the first actors to play a corporate spokescharacter. I can't find any photos of Ms. Green, only painted pictures for Aunt Jemima. I do know that, at least at first, she wore a padded costume to make her fatter.
That's some interesting information. She looks more like a real person in the Wikipedia image. Maybe it's just the effects of the scanning that makes her look so weird in the ad. It would be nice to see some actual photos of her.
I am glad to see that she was able to use her success to help others. Too bad about her untimely death. I guess that's why they appeared to use a different model after that. :(
