Earthbound travelers are snowbound. Huh. One year when there was the big snowstorm in Denver, it grounded all the planes, and so we had to drive instead of fly from Chicago to Buffalo (we were lucky to fly from Minneapolis to Chicago!) for Christmas. The text on this cracks me up.
I kind of like the picture, though I don't think it really supports the text. The snow looks to only be about ankle deep. Dad could've probably just driven right out of the driveway instead of having to shovel it. Besides, you'd still have to get to the airport through the snow.
Why did someone set wrapped Christmas presents right on the snow?
I think it's more the *idea* of fast, easy travel. Yes, there's snow to bother them on the way to the airport, but then, four hours and you're across the continent with relatives in sunny California, not four days drive through very bad weather.
Where do these people live? In Wisconsin, that's just a little snow, the kind where you get up earlier to shovel or snowblow your way out in the morning, maybe brush off your car if it's kept outside. And it's not even snowing anymore!
Not surprisingly, there are places where it's "Three inches of snow?! D: I give up!!". A light rain has much the same effect here and in LA, causing massive car accidents and endless whining. ;)
The trouble I noticed with rain when living in California (central California, for me) was that because it rained so infrequently, people didn't know how to drive in the rain (slow down, leave more distance, have your lights on if your wipers are on). And that did seem to lead to more accidents.
Now when I moved from the D.C. area to Michigan, one morning the first winter I lived there, I woke up, looked outside, saw six inches of snow on the ground and the mention on the radio of plenty more to come, and was about to roll over and go back to sleep when I thought to double-check that classes were going to be cancelled - and nope, they weren't. I said to my husband, "They expect me to operate in this?! This is a definite day off where I'm from!"
