The suspension and pneumatic tires made a much more comfortable ride than the wagon. Although those tires look like they belong more on a bicycle. Which they were, at first.
You see the board coming up in the front? It's called the dash board and is there to prevent the 'dash' from horses' hooves from splashing your clothes and face.
Hey, it's even got fenders and headlights! I guess the fenders were to prevent more 'dash'.
I once got into a heated discussion with some coworkers and my boss when she was having trouble with her car and said we should just go back to using horses. Really? Um, yeah, horses get sick and injured and, unlike my car, if I don't have the money to fix my car or it's not convenient for me to take it to a mechanic, it can sit in my driveway until I'm ready to deal with it. Can't do that with a horse--well, not if you're a person with a conscience, anyway. Besides, I only need to "feed" my car when I use it. A horse needs to eat every day whether you use it or not. I think horses are fantastic and I wish I had the money and time for one, but I'm glad I don't need to depend on them for transportation.
