I ordered myself a print. That's well done.

It seems like one of those fake vintage styled ads, but you really can't be too sure sometimes...

It's a spoof of this ad series (http://www.ebay.com/itm/1952-FLORIDA-CITRUS-COMMISSION-ORANGE-JUICE-AD-Nice-Color-Lakeland-FL-/350574278657?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item519fdaf801) from the Florida Citrus Commission.

i figured it was a spoof but approved it anyway as everyone once in awhile we need some 'fun' :D

Maybe the spoofs should be tagged as such? Usually I can tell, but others sometimes can't, apparently, and being the stickler for accurate historical understanding I am, it worries me to think of misinformation being accidentally disseminated.

well i wouldn't want to ENCOURAGE spoofs being posted....that's why on very rare occasions things like this will be allowed....usually if someone reads the comments they'll find it's a spoof.....we've discussed before having such a tag and came to the conclusion that it would just encourage such posting....so we decided not too....

what if we had a spoof contest? I might actually be inclined to do some original work for that LOL

Great idea. I think this spoof is very well done -- I just wanted to acknowledge the source. Maybe if we do a spoof contest that should be part of the rules, to post the inspiration along with the parody.

do you think that would confuse people and/or encourage the regular submission of spoof ads?? i know that's why we don't have a spoof ad tag....i am not against having a day or two for spoof ads---made or found, but we'd have to be really clear that it's a special occasional....

Perhaps, as [livejournal.com profile] amelia_eve suggests, only allow them if posted together with the original?

though, do you think it should be a contest or a weekend event? with of course enough heads up to give people time to make ads...we have weekend events thru august, so it wouldn't be til september....just thinking out loud here....

I think a spoof day (call it amnesty) would be better. Requiring posting with a real ad would omit all the non-specific vintage spoofs. Maybe a day and just say 'this day only!'.

OT: What about the "Creepy Smiles" and "Poorly Named Products" ideas?

i think it got changed to crocodile smiles and poorly named products and i know there was one other standout, will be our selections to vote on for october, november, december :)

good point re: posting a real ad...i'll post a reminder about americana ads and query our masses about a spoof day and/or weekend....
