That first paragraph of that article is hilarious:

Apparently, Rob Ford isn’t the only round thing with a mushy white middle stirring up controversy around Pride Week this year.

Also, wow. Hydrox come from just a few blocks from where I work. Awesome!

Loose-Wiles Biscuit Company? Really? Sounds like those cookies are going to get used for something... ummm.... loose and wily. ;)

I had heard there was a brouhaha, which reminds me I should go out and buy some Oreos, but I had no idea they were one hundred years old. Wow.

(That Hydrox ad is hilarious though. They act like they're sending you to Hogwarts rather than sending you a commercially made cookie.)

The Oreo Factory stinks of burned chocolate.

In other news... Over in the UK we had these bad boys for years. Don't think they predate oreos though:

Oreos are one of the things that I love too much. I can't even buy them because they just make me lose all self-control.

Honestly, though, I was a little surprised about the rainbow cookie... I mean that they did it in the first place. I would've expected packaged goods folks from Kraft to be, let's say, hyper sensitive to the risk of offending bible-thumping yahoos.

I love how many things the yahoos will have to give up if they really want to boycott Oreos, which can't be done effectively unless they boycott EVERYTHING Nabisco's parent company, Kraft, makes. Let's just say, it's a LOT. I found this discussion (http://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/comments/vmbti/found_this_in_the_comments_of_oreos_pride_post_on/c55ri20) through a tumblr link, and yeah. Even the modern computer was largely developed by Alan Turing... who was gay. I'm sure the One Drop rule would apply for people this fanatical.

If you're going to boycott anything and everything that supports equality, the opening line sums it up pretty well: be Amish.

I really like the packaging in the first ad. Whatever the brand, I'll always take free cookies! Yum!

What I really noticed about that is how small the package is. These days I only single sleeves of cookies like that in convenience stores. The typical page now has about three times as many cookies as that slim box.

I'm trying to imagine the elegant dinner party for which that lady on the candlestick phone is ordering the oreos. I wonder if she'll serve them on a silver tray.

I always thought that "dainties" was a euphemism for women's underwear.
