My parakeet lives in a giant cage with a bunch of cockatiels. He likes to torment them with the fact that he can slip in and out of the bars of the cage whenever he likes, and they can't. I've watched him. He totally does it.
As a child, I had a parakeet that went violently insane, killed two of its cagemates and needed to be distracted with a hand-puppet in order to be fed since it would bite you to the bone otherwise. I feel sort of cheated when I read of other people's nice memories of their cute little bird-friends. ( I'm not making this up, BTW. She laid a barren egg and we didn't know any better than to remove it. Still not sure what we could have done, but apparently they do go permanently crazy over this).
