The Boy With Green Hair, 1948

Greenposter2greenposter

Yes, Dean Stockwell, as the boy.  Dean Stockwell of Quantum Leap and Battlestar Galactica (Brother Cavil)! :D

And Dore Schary, well known to I Love Lucy fans!

and Wilbur Whateley in The Dunwich Horror.

So, why did his hair turn green? Clearly Cylon technology wasn't up to the job....

*checks the links* Damn, Nature Boy was from the soundtrack of that movie? And Edward Olmos referenced it in The Plan? Neat!

I was watching an interview with Dean Stockwell back in the Quantum Leapyears, and the interviewer started to ask a question, saying "You've worked with several generations of Hollywood actors..."

Stockwell interrupted him and said "I AM several generations of Hollywood actor!" Considering he started in 1945 and has been acting ever since, that statement just keeps getting more true.

I know, right? If you scroll down his IMBD list, it goes on and on. It's such a rarity for a child actor to have such an enduring career.

Yeah, back then having green hair was totally unheard of, unlike today, when he'd fit right in.

And I thought Dore Schary made only "message" movies.

Peter soon realizes that—like the children on the posters, whose images haunt him—he, too, is a war orphan. The realization about his parents and the work helping the orphans makes Peter turn very serious, and he is further troubled when he overhears the adults around him talking about the world preparing for another war. The next day, after having a bath, Peter is drying his hair with a towel when, to his astonishment, he sees that his hair has turned green, prompting him to run away after being taunted by the townspeople and his peers. Suddenly, appearing before him in a lonely part of the woods are the orphaned children whose pictures he saw on the posters.

They tell him that he is a war orphan, but that with his green hair he can make a difference and must tell people that war is dangerous for children. He leaves determined to deliver his message to any and all.

So, we shouldn't tell people war is bad for kids? Is that what this ad is saying?

I remember seeing this on TV back in the Sixties. Naturally, on a black-and-white TV...

This is a real star-studded cast, with Pat O'Brien (who, as I recall, played the grand old Irish grandfather in this), Robert Ryan ("Bad Day at Black Rock" and "The Dirty Dozen"), Barbara Hale (better known as Della Street from "Perry Mason"), and if you look down far enough, Dwayne Hickman (Dobie Gillis) and Russ Tamblyn ("West Side Story" and "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers") in an uncredited appearance.

O/T, but I LOVE your icon. I still miss seeing those signs when I got to the city.

I'm guessing he's either the Joker's love child, or had blonde hair and did too much swimming!
